How do I reserve a pup?

You can reserve a pup with a $100 deposit payable by personal check, money order, or paypal.  Your deposit is your word that you are going to purchase a pup and is non-refundable as long as a pup is or will be available to fill your order.  To reserve your pup, email or call us with your name, phone number, address, email address, breed, litter, and sex of the pup.  We will then add you to our reservation list as pending.  We will allow 7 days for the arrival of the deposit.  If the deposit is not received within 7 days, we will remove you from the list.  Pups will be picked in the order of the reservation list.

Can I have a puppy shipped?

Yes you can have a pup shipped, but we had much rather you pick your pup up at the kennel because there are many restrictions for air freight for live animals including, but not limited to, temperature extremes anywhere along the route the dog must travel and arrangements are difficult to finalize on both ends because airline employees often give conflicting answers to important questions.    However, we do ship pups.  Contact us for arrangements.  There will be additional charges including but not limited to the following:

All charges are subject to change and will be verified before shipping arrangements are made.  The balance that you owe on the pup must be received and cleared (up to 10 business days for a personal check) before we can ship.  In most cases, shipping will be freight collect, meaning you will pay the shipping cost when you pick the pup up.  If you want insurance, it must be paid upfront.  Go to the Northwest Airlines website for more info on shipping including rates to various locations.

When will my pup be ready to leave the kennel?

Dry dog food is available for the pups from birth, they begin eating it from 3-4 weeks of age, we begin the weaning process at 5 weeks of age, and pups are ready to leave the kennel at 7 weeks of age.  We feed Diamond puppy food and will provide you with a small sample bag of Diamond when you pick your pup up.  We recommend that you feed Diamond or any comparable, name-brand puppy food until the pup is one year old.

What should I expect when I get my pup?

We will register the litter of pups with either AKC for Brittanys or FDSB for Pointers and Llewellin Setters.  We will give you an individual form to register your pup.

Your puppy will be current on all vaccinations and wormings.  We vaccinate the puppies at 5 weeks of age for parvovirus and then at 6 weeks of age with a 5-way combination vaccine.  We also worm the puppies every week beginning at 2 weeks of age with Strongid-T puppy wormer.  Brittanys will have their tails docked and dew claws removed.  We will give you a health record with the dates of all health related information.  You can take the health record to your local vet so that he or she can see what the puppy has had and what it needs.  Pups are usually vaccinated every 2-3 weeks until they are 4 months old and then once yearly.

If we ship the pup, we will mail the registration form and health record to you so that it doesn't get lost during the air transit.

If warranty is applicable, it will never exceed the purchase price of the pup or replacement of the pup, at the discretion of the breeder, and will never include any vet charges or transportation costs.  Gun shyness is man-made and is not a warranty issue.  If you need help in breaking your dog to the sound of gunfire, please ask us or a professional trainer for assistance.  It is much easier to avoid than to cure.

Should I choose a male or female?

We believe all of the pups are individuals just like humans.  They all have unique personalities and different qualities.  We do not believe that all females are a little calmer and smaller than all males, nor do we believe that all males hunt harder and faster than all females.  This may be true in some instances, but not always.  We believe the main differences in males and females are urinary habits of males (they can make your car tires look nasty) and the heat cycles of the females (Murphy's law says they will be in heat whenever you plan a big hunting trip or field trial).  Many people have a preference based on past experience; however, if you have no preference, we recommend that you weigh these options as you make your decision.

Which breed should I choose?

We have chosen all of our breeding stock with the same criteria in mind:  excellent hunting abilities and the tools to accomplish the job such as intelligence; scenting ability; stamina through excellent conformation; biddability; class, style and athleticism; and the temperament necessary to make an excellent companion, whether in the field or beside the fireplace.  We appreciate a fine bird dog no matter what the breed.  If you have a specific breed that you have an affection for, then that is most likely what you need to purchase.  If you don't and you have questions about the characteristics of each breed, we will be glad to try to help you find the type dog you are looking for.

Would these dogs make suitable house dogs?

All of our dogs are bred to have suitable temperaments to be house dogs.  We have sold many dogs, Brittanys, Llewellin Setters, and Pointers, as house dogs and all customers have been well-satisfied.  This will not take away from their hunting abilities.  In fact, it will intensify the bonding process which will make training much easier and also will increase the willingness of the dog to please its partner.

Do you ever have started dogs available?

Occasionally we will have started dogs.  Prices of started dogs will vary based on age, degree of training and individual abilities.  Shipping prices will also vary due to the increased size of the dog, crate size, etc.
